What is "WAKON"?

"WA (和)" has several meanings and in many cases it's used to mean “harmony” and "togetherness". "WA" also means “traditional Japanese”. “KON (婚)” means "wedding" and "marriage". They then come together to become "WA-KON" which has a meaning of "Japanese traditional wedding".

In last 2 or 3 decades, Christian style of wedding became popular in Japan, and people liked to have christian style weddings rather than WAKON. But recently, WAKON started attracting people's attention again, and it's becoming popular among non-Japanese as well. In last 10 years, it was reported more than 1,000 of non-Japanese couples visited to Japan to have WAKON weddings.
